Movable Type 3.0

Six Apart released some information on the upcoming Movable Type 3.0 – it sounds nice. I’ve been using MT-Blacklist for a while now, but it’s a pain in the ass to keep it up to date. Although it has blocked quite a bit of spam already. TypeKey seems to add a little bit of “community” to MT users, which is kinda neat.

Of course, Niv isn’t going to like that, the hardcore anti-MT person he is :) (he bugs me because I wrote bplog, but use MT for my own site).

  1. From what the mt-dev mailing list hints at, its going to be sweet.

as for keeping mt-blacklist up to date, well, its easy, i got a script that logs in each night and updates the list for me.

part of me wants to port mt-blacklist to mod_perl, but … i can’t see anyone but me (that i know) using it.

  2. I was using some PHP updater for MT-Blacklist for a while, but didn’t like how it added log entries even if there were no new things to add. Plus, the RSS feed only has like 15 items, and they get added much more quickly than that.

So I’ll just update the list manually every now and then – usually if I either get a comment spam pass the filter, or if I’m bored and happen to think about it.

Not much point to do anything drastic with MT-Blacklist, with MT 3.0 and TypeKey, it won’t really be needed as much. I can’t wait.

  3. well the perl one was only generating login items, no actually log things.. but yea..

I wonder if livejournal will do typekey too, that could be cool.

And the only reason i wanna do mod_perl is for something todo.. not so much ’cause it should be done.
